Campus bicycles

The ANU has a fleet of bicycles available for use on campus, these are referred to as Timely Treadlies.

Building access, cards, doors

Access to the buildings, labs and offices of the school is controlled by various electronic and keyed locking systems.

Infrastructure support team

The school infrastructure team provides support for the fabric of the school, including doors, access, maintenance, heating and cooling, construction, repair, etc.

Submit work requests for building maintenance and new installations through our work request system.

ANU Purchase Cards are utilised to ensure efficient purchasing across the ANU. This guideline should be read in conjunction with the Research School of Physics Purchasing guidelines.

Purchasing

Purchasing services provides advice on the whole procurement process including procurement policies, procurement methods and procedures for the School. Our team ensures all purchases comply with ANU and School expenditure policies.

The School purchases a large variety of goods and services from many different local and overseas suppliers to enable this to occur in the most efficient and flexible manner, the School has developed a number of procedures for procurement.

The Physics Store is the largest materials Store on campus, and also provide extensive logistic support to the school.

Information technology

Buying a computer

All computing devices need to be ordered via the correct procedure. This begins with contacting the SCU to discuss your requirements and secure a quote.

Email

ANU email is provided by Office365. This can be accessed via Outlook (or another client) installed on your computer or mobile device, or via the OWA web mail interface.

Physics website profile

The physics website people list and profiles are updated by your departmental administrator. Please let them know if you spot any inaccuracies.

Some sections of your profile are available for you to edit directly, including available student projects, biography, etc. Edit your profile using the physics web database.

Printing

Physics South is covered by the PhysicsPrint follow me printing service.

The SCU also runs an in house print service that can print large format posters, booklets, etc.

School Computer Unit (SCU)

The School Computer Unit (also known as Physics IT) provides local IT support to the Research School. The SCU should be your first point of contact for any IT related issues. Contact us at IT.Physics@anu.edu.au

Security groups

Active directory security groups are used to control access to services such as functional emails, network shares and the VPN.

To query or update the membership of a security group please email it.physics@anu.edu.au

Marketing

Marketing and media support

Phil Dooley can assist with producing media releases, dealing with media, producing interviews and general publicity services.

Photography and videography

Martin Conway can assist with photography for publicity or scientific publications and video recording of interviews, etc.

Work health and safety

The Research School of Physics has an extensive work, health and safety (WHS) program that aims to provide staff and students with the structures, systems and support to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all people within the school. The School has many and varied potential hazards. These potential hazards must be identified, risk assessed, and appropriate controls implemented. The goal is to eliminate harmful incidents or injury.
