Dr AJ Mitchell is originally from Ballymena, Northern Ireland. He holds a 1st Class (Hons.) MSci. in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from Queen's University Belfast, UK (2009). His postgraduate studies were undertaken at the University of Manchester, UK. AJ completed in Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics in 2012. The experiments for his thesis work, titled "Investigating high-j single-particle energies in Z=51 nuclei", were conducted at Yale University, USA. He was employed as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Adjunct Teaching Faculty at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, USA from 2012-2014. In 2015, he joined the Nuclear Structure group at the Australian National University as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He is currently a Research Fellow investigating the structure of nuclei with extreme neutron:proton ratios with beams of radioactive nuclei. 

AJ is a University House Early Career Academic Fellow.

AJ is a College Contact for the ANU Network for Early Career Teachers, Academics and Researchers (NECTAR).
