In-situ study by dynamics X-ray microtomography of the fluid transport and hydromechanical coupling in fractured rocks

The experimental mechanics lab at the Australian National University (Australia) and the “Pore-scale Processes in Geomaterials” research group at Ghent University (Belgium) are seeking a candidate for a joint PhD position to study the mechanics and fluid transport in fractured geomaterials. The role is set to commence in 2025 for a period of 3 years with the potential for a one-year extension. The position is funded by an industrial fellowship of the Australian Research Council (ARC).

Investigating the morphology, composition, and mechanics of native grains

The domestication of several native grain-bearing species is currently being assessed by different research groups across Australia. However, the mechanical behaviour and related suitability to industrial processing methods have not previously been investigated. This project aims to develop baseline mechanical data for indigenous grains that are undergoing assessment for potential agricultural development.
