Project details
Systems of small number of vortices in classical fluids and quantum fluids such as Bose-Einstein condensates, can exhibit chaotic behaviour. The degree of chaos can depend on the number of vortices, system size and confining geometry. This project will computationally model vortex dynamics in a Bose-Einstein condensate by solving the non-linear Schrödinger equation, in order to explore chaotic vortex dynamics in superfluid systems and establish the building blocks to understand the role of chaotic events in turbulent flows.
