The positive attractions of positrons

Wednesday 5 July 2017 10am

The combination of antimatter and Canberra sold Tamara Babij on her PhD project.

Her honours year at Flinders University in Adelaide included six months working in the positron lab at ANU Physics, which she loved so much she decided to stay in Canberra.

"It was very welcoming. There were quite a few PhD students in my lab and a good social environment," Tamara says.

Her project is studying the fundamental quantum processes that happen when antimatter interacts with matter.

"I really enjoy working in physics, it's a very investigative job. Every day I walk into the lab and find out new things," she says.

"You're working on something that’s your own project, too."
