The trip of a lifetime will be just one part of an inspiring journey for Professor Susan Scott, as she takes part in the Homeward Bound, an international leadership, strategic and science initiative for women.
Professor Scott will be one of 80 female scientists who will spend three weeks travelling in Antarctica in early 2018, as the culmination of a year of coaching, development and project work.
"We'll be stopping at scientific sites and putting our skills into action. I can’t wait," Professor Scott said.
Homeward Bound aims to work with 1000 women with science backgrounds over the next decade to heighten their influence and impact on policy and decision making as it shapes the planet.
The program includes women from countries as diverse as Kenya, Venezuela and Italy with professions from all strands of science and engineering, as well as from the policy sphere.
"We will set up connections that will together make a difference.
"We bring a different perspective, a very deep concern among us," Professor Scott said.
"For example, I hate what is happening to our seas, and the great Pacific garbage patch."
