Public Lecture

Is existence just an illusion?

Dr Peter J Riggs
Department of Quantum Science, Australian National University

Have you ever thought that something is not quite right about the world? Does life seem illusionary at times? Have you ever wondered if your existence is only a dream? Thinkers have deliberated over such questions for millennia. More recently, science has entered this debate. Issues concerning whether our existence is what it mostly seems to be or is an illusion will be addressed in this lecture.

Dr Peter J Riggs is a physicist and a philosopher of science at the Australian National University. He is a leading researcher on the nature of time and the foundations of physics. Dr Riggs' books include: Quantum Causality (Springer Academic, 2009) and Whys and Ways of Science (Melbourne University Press, 1992).
