How old is the Sphinx? What the evidence reveals

Dr Peter J Riggs
Department of Quantum Science
Australian National University

A debate has been raging for several decades over what is the actual age of the Great Sphinx at the Giza Plateau in Egypt. Geophysical evidence in particular points to the Sphinx being much older than what academic egyptologists would have us believe. This lecture will consider recent physical evidence and the theories that have been propsoed to explain this evidence.

Dr Peter J. Riggs is a physicist and philosopher of science. His publications include the books, Whys and Ways of Science; Introducing Philosophical and Sociological Theories of Science (Melbourne University Press, 1992) and the edited volume Natural Kinds, Laws of Nature and Scientific Methodology.

This lecture is free and open to the public.
