T-duality in string theory

Professor Ctirad Klimcik
Aix-Marseille Université, Marseille, France

Duality occurs in many branches of theoretical and mathematical physics and has important implications for understanding the mathematical structure of the physical theories. In particular, T-duality is an isomorphism of two string theories respectively associated to two different spacetime geometries. I shall give an informal quantitative description of this phenomenon, aiming simultaneously to review some basic technical concepts of the string theory not necessarily known to broader physical community.
