Along a GSI superheavy element experiment, including excursions to topics that link to ANU
In my second seminar, I will present GSI-aspects of the accelerators, targets, and gas-filled recoil separator in use for superheavy element research at GSI and link to corresponding activities at ANU.
Discussed topics will include:
- development work towards a new superconducting continuous-wave linac
- transuranium target production capabilities in Mainz and some highlight applications of such targets
- the relevance of ion-gas-collisions in a gas-filled recoil separator as well as in gas strippers used in accelerators, and specifically our work to improve the performance of the UNILAC accelerator at GSI towards the future FAIR facility
an example of a recent superheavy element experiment at TASCA, namely the nuclear structure studies along element 115 decay chains.
