Hydrogen is playing an increasing role as an energy vector as countries transition towards renewable energy.

What is needed is a way of ensuring that industry and government can verify the embedded carbon content of hydrogen delivered to the customer in an emissions-constrained world.

Join our Public Forum and hear the latest results from the Australian Government's recent survey on Hydrogen Certification, from ANU research on hydrogen and ammonia certification, and an industry perspective.

Our expert panel comprises:

• Rebecca Thomson: from the Hydrogen Strategy Team in the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, who will provide an update on Commonwealth certification processes;
   
• Dr Emma Aisbett: ANU Energy Change Institute and Associate Director (Research), ANU Grand Challenge: Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific, who will present key outcomes of our hydrogen certification research;
   
• Penelope Howarth:  Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (on secondment to the Grand Challenge team) who will present key outcomes of the Grand Challenge's ammonia certification research;
   
• Dr John Soderbaum, Director of ACIL Allen Consulting’s Science and Technology practise, who will offer a corporate perspective.

This discussion will be moderated by Prof. Ken Baldwin, Director of the ANU Energy Change Institute and Director of the ANU Grand Challenge: Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific.

Speakers

Dr Emma Aisbett is a Fellow at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) and Associate Director (Research) for the ANU Grand Challenge: Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific. Emma’s previous research spans economic globalization, environmental policy, developing countries, and political economy. She is best known for her work on international investment agreements where she has influenced both academic debate and policy. On this topic Emma has been an invited expert at both the OECD and the UN Commission on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). She is also an approved supplier of policy advice to developing countries through the UK Governments TAF2+ initiative.

Dr John Soderbaum FTSE, is ACIL Allen Consulting’s Director Science and Technology. His clients include governments, companies, industry associations, and research organisations. Some of John’s hydrogen related projects include the 2003 Australian National Hydrogen Study, a report for ARENA on Australia's Hydrogen Export Opportunities, and the South Australian Government's Green Hydrogen Study. Dr Soderbaum was in 2010 elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE). He is currently Chair of the ATSE Energy Forum.
