Nicolas Baudin Program - Deadline Extension

We have received many questions around the logistics of these international online internships. While there are obvious limits to the possibilities without mobility, one of the main goals is to capitalise on existing partnerships and thus these could be done through a hybrid model:
- As a reminder, the university in France/in Australia proposes research internship topics which can be done by correspondence from the other country.
- The Embassy shares the offers received with the universities in the other country for their students.
- A project can be proposed for 100% online research, or;
- A part of the internship can be done in person. For example, an Australian project which involves a university partner in France could allow the French intern to use tools, software, other equipment or laboratory space at the French partner for collaborative research which will be used by both universities. The same goes for industry partners.
- An internship can also be co-conceived by two universities on a topic of common interest under a “buddy” system. In this case the Australian and the French student each work in their own faculty and share their work and results regularly.
To clarify the funding:
- “Internships in France” funding: Since there is no intern mobility, the Embassy can’t provide the Nicolas Baudin Travel Grant for laureates. However, the Embassy hopes to be in a position to still provide some funding to help the students’ living costs/tuition fees, and will encourage the universities to support their students in whatever way possible.
- The monthly stipend is still mandatory in France, even for online internships. French partners who propose topics will have to confirm this in their offer.
- “Internships in Australia” funding: Australian universities who propose projects for French students, as well as the French universities to which they belong, will both be strongly encouraged to support the projects.
