SEACT Prize

The Science Educators' Association hosted the awards ceremony for the ACT Science and Engineering Fair at the CSIRO Discovery Centre last Friday.

Students from Covenant Christian School won three awards, with second place in the Physical Sciences category going to Year 10 student Rachel Maruskanic for her project "Radioactivity in Common Materials in Suburban Canberra" performed in Nuclear Physics with Greg Lane as her science mentor.

Rachel's project has now been chosen for entry into the BHP Billiton national science competition. The idea for her project arose during a school tour of the Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility organised by science teacher Lesli Findlay.
