meriSTEM Volunteers - 21 August

Published in the Research School of Physics Event Horizon
Vol44 Issue30 29 July–2 August 2019

Dear Colleagues,

After the success of meriSTEM’s first volunteering hour with 27 amazing volunteers, join us for our second edition from 5:30pm on Wednesday 21 August. Our goal is to achieve edited transcripts for 93 short (2 to 5 minute) physics videos, resulting in the entirety of meriSTEM’s Semester 2 physics course being available with captions.

When: Wednesday 21 August, 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Where: ANU Physics Studio, Ground Floor, Building 38a.

Event proceedings: Join a great bunch of people to improve usability and accessibility of the meriSTEM Physics videos for Year 11 and 12 students. Each video is about 2 to 5 minutes, and all you need to do is proof read and edit the automatic YouTube transcriptions. Instructions at 5:30pm, volunteering hour from 5:45pm to 6:45pm, pizza provided at 6:45pm.

Bring: Your own laptop and headphones to participate.

What is meriSTEM?: meriSTEM (modular educational resources in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a free program providing everything senior secondary teachers need to flip their science class using blended learning resources. We are only able to exist thanks to volunteer support and the Physics Education Centre at The Australian National University.

To RSVP: If you are available and keen to donate an hour, register through Eventbrite for venue set-up and catering purposes (www.bit.ly/meristem2108).

We hope to see you in the ANU Physics Studio at 5:30pm on Wednesday 21 August!

Best wishes,

Tim
