No bins under your desks

New cleaning contract roll out

After several months of preparation, the new cleaning contract is ready for roll out. In the following weeks you will be able to see the first changes – the cleaners will be around the offices across campus until 10am every work day, your under-desk bins (for general rubbish) will not be serviced anymore, and the buildings will receive centralised bins to provide better opportunities for recycling.

Although the bins for general rubbish under your desks will not be serviced, they will not be removed unless you put in a request to your building custodian. If you wish to continue using them, you will have to empty them yourselves to the nearest communal bin. To support you in that, new centralised bins will be distributed around the buildings – find them in either kitchen or similar communal areas, or in the corners, corridors, next to doors etc. The cardboard ‘bins’ under your desks where you can leave your recycling will be serviced as per usual.

Further, there are new services that were negotiated as part of the new contract. Once a year, the buildings are going to receive some “pampering” – external window cleaning and carpet shampooing will be performed at no extra cost.

The new contract has resulted in a reduction of total cleaning costs by approximately 16%, offering more value for money by the implementation of the new initiatives. ISS Facility Services, as the chosen contractor, will be delivering cleaning, housekeeping and hygiene services for the next few years.

If you have further questions about the initiatives that are being implemented as part of this Contract, please contact waste@anu.edu.au.
