Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the release of new functionality that will enable staff to submit a request to update their preferred given, middle and last names within HORUS.

Upon submission, the request will be routed directly to the HR Division for review and subsequent action, with approved changes applied directly to the HRMS, and downstream systems, where applicable.

Our goal was to develop a simplified solution focussing on efficiency, useability and access for staff whilst at the same time providing a uniform, streamlined and paperless process.

User guides, documents and information are now available for staff to access to assist as we transition to the online process.

The University recognises that many members of its community use abbreviations of their names or publish under previous family names rather than their current legal or official names. For some individuals a preferred name may be an important part of their identity, i.e. publishing using preferred name rather than official name. As such we have established a mechanism via HORUS for individuals to record their preferred name as well as the capability to share these attributes with other systems such as the Research Information Management System (RIMS) and Identity.

NB: Official (legal) names will continue to be used for all official University business, including but not limited to employment and payroll documentation, ATO payment summaries as well as superannuation and email accounts.

Key benefits of the online request include:

Assistance is available Online – a Step by step user guides for all staff can be found on the HORUS support website.
