RE: Hard internal deadlines for the upcoming major grant round

If you are applying for a grant in the upcoming major grant round, please read this email carefully.

The College of Science (CoS) Executive Committee has approved the introduction and implementation of ‘hard internal deadlines’ for the upcoming major grant round.

It is anticipated the hard deadlines will reduce the potential to submit ineligible and incomplete applications, ensuring complete and well thought through applications with the best chance of success are submitted. They will ensure staff workloads during the major grant rounds are more manageable with a focus on increasing work-life balance.

The deadlines were further required as the ARC will no longer be requesting detailed eligibility clarifications from Universities, as they did previously. The applications are required to be fully self-contained thereby requiring an added level of care at application stage. For example, you need to clearly articulate your application meets the ARC Medical Research Policy requirements within your proposal if your research lies in the health and medical research area. The ARC will not seek further clarification from researchers and will make the eligibility assessment based on the information within the application.

The ARC and NHMRC deadlines, general principles, along with the internal cut-offs are attached. Note that exemptions will only be considered in the event of a serious and unforeseen circumstance (e.g. serious illness). In such a case, a written request will need to be made by the School Director to the Dean for approval.

If you are concerned about your eligibility requirements you can email the college research office using the email addresses below.
