The Vice-Chancellor’s College Visiting Artist Fellows Scheme (VCCAFS) aims to promote collaborative research between different academic fields by placing a visiting artist fellow in each of the ANU Colleges.
The artists in residence at the Research School of Physics and Engineering for 2017 are:
- Dr Whateley’s project for 2017 will explore how time perception might be altered visually and will be conducted in collaboration with Dr Peter Riggs.
- Ms Susan Buret’s research question is: How can the patterns that underlie the structure of natural objects be expressed and investigated in painting and textiles? This aligns closely with Dr Robins mathematical research into the generation of patterns not always visible to the human eye.
- Dr Alexandra Gillespie will work on 3D branching structures related to corals to develop sculptural and print works. This relates to Dr Robins investigations into tiling patterns on curved surfaces and the intrinsic geometry and topology of natural forms.
The resulting artworks from this year’s VCCAFS projects will be exhibited at the School of Art & Design Gallery in February 2018.
