Incomplete fusion, in which only a part of projectile amalgamates with target nucleus, has shown unexpected onset at slightly above barrier energies. In recent years, a variety of experiments have been performed at the Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi to better understand the dynamics of incomplete fusion at low incident energies.
The very existence of incomplete fusion at slightly above barrier energies has been emphasized in the measurement of forward ranges of heavy recoils – where multiple linear momentum transfer components associated with complete and incomplete fusion have been clearly disentangled, and in the spin–distribution measurements – where reaction dependent (distinctly different) decay patterns have been observed. The onset and strength of incomplete fusion in terms of various entrance–channel parameters, and some of the findings from our recent measurements will be discussed.
