Departmental Seminar

Nucleon structure and implications for dark matter searches and nuclear structure

Professor Anthony W. Thomas
CSSM University of Adelaide

We review some of the advances in our understanding of the quark structure of the nucleon, much of it based on lattice QCD and effective field theory. We show that some of this work has important implications for the direct searches for dark matter which occupy many nuclear and particle physicists around the world at the present time. Finally we turn to recent progress in turning insights into nuclear structure into a practical theoretical framework for nuclear structure
