Mid Term Review

Tunable electro-optic metasurfaces

Ms Luyao Wang

Abstract: Nanotechnology has revolutionized modern photonics, especially in transforming optical devices. Nanofabrication has made it possible to create functional optical devices that perform as well as, or even better than, their traditional counterparts. The concept of metasurfaces plays a critical role in this progress. Our work focuses on the methods of fast dynamic tuning of optical response of metasurfaces by using Lithium Niobate (LN). LN, one of the most well known electro-optic materials, is an outstanding candidate for realising ultra-fast modulation owing to its high modulation speed, low power dissipation and strong linear electro-optic properties. We study several structures and explore the limits of continuous tunability of transmission amplitude, phase, and polarisation.
