As the first major milestone for PhD students, the TPR is important for convincing your School that you understand the process of scholarly enquiry and that you have a project that is both viable and feasible. In this session, we analyse past research proposals to better understand their purpose and key components. We cover strategies for structuring and writing your own.

Journal article writing

In this workshop, learn how to plan and structure a persuasive article. We analyse sample articles from relevant Physics journals to find out what makes an effectively written paper.

 

Targeting a journal and responding to reviewers

Following on from the morning’s workshop, discover how to target journals so that you maximise the chances of seeing your work in print. We also review techniques for interpreting and responding to feedback professionally.

Co-taught with ANU Physics Research Fellow Dr Rose Ahlefeldt. Bring along a draft of your work to learn how to apply an editing and proofreading system that will assist you to polish your work for clarity and style.
