Dear Colleagues,

ANU has been increasing its focus on Work Health and Safety as part of a move towards being a Workers Compensation Self Insured Organisation. Last year, Comcare (federal WHS Regulator) conducted an Audit of the University Work Health and Safety Management System (policy, procedures and processes), and the effectiveness of implementation across the workplace. This audit identified a range of areas that require improvement in order to be compliant with requirements placed on our organisation.

As part of the improvement strategy, the central Work Environment Group (WEG) has been undertaking work to develop a range of procedures and process to improve safety across campus. RSPE has volunteered to be one of the first locations to review this material to evaluate implement ability. During the week of 25th – 29th March, representatives from WEG will be on site to demonstrate this material. During this time, our School WHS Team may take the WEG representatives to various work environments to demonstrate our workspaces, and seek involvement from the workforce.

Additionally, we will be holding three topic based WHS forums, where the WEG representatives will be demonstrating the procedures and processes to attendees. These presentation will provide an opportunity for the workforce to see firsthand what is in development and how it may impact their work activities. These forums will provide an excellent opportunity for the workforce to be directly involved in the consultation and feedback process, and to ask questions of the WEG representatives. These forums will also assist in determining what resources will be required to meet the Universities implementation timeframes.

The three focus groups will be centred around:

It is essential we have representation from academic and technical staff from all areas.  Students are also encouraged. Can you please register you interest with Mick Craft, RSPE WHS Manager asap -    ohs.rspe@anu.edu.au.  This is a very tight timeframe owing to the next planned audit in Nov/Dec this year.  This is your chance to ensure that implementation guides are fit best with our School requirements.
