How does one build a career from a PhD in mathematics or physics in academic, government or industry settings? Last week, 35 female or gender diverse individuals gathered at University House to participate in the first Mentoring and Guidance in Careers (MAGIC) workshop to seek an answer to this question. The workshop, an initiative of Professors Mahananda Dasgupta (ANU) and Nalini Joshi (USyd), aimed to impart practical skills for success and resilience in careers.

Organising committee member Dr Merryn McKinnon (CPAS ANU) led many of the workshop sessions over the five days, ranging from open panel discussions and talks from both industry and academic representatives, to smaller discussions sessions and interactive activities.

The workshop was extremely well received, with participants commenting on the  “fabulous workshop”, and the “great wisdom from fantastic panellists” they received.

The organisers wish to thanks the support they received from many RSPE staff, and look forward to their support for MAGIC2018!
