National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants (NISDRG)

NISDRG supports excellent research that deepens understanding of emerging science and technology and addresses intelligence and national security interests. The grant program will facilitate innovation and develop national security and intelligence capacity. It will also enable Australia’s National Intelligence and Security Communities to systematically engage with Australia’s research and technology community.

These are two separate schemes, each with their own focus areas (listed below):

1. National Intelligence Challenges (NI22) for funding through ONI: Current Grant Opportunity View - GO5098: GrantConnect (grants.gov.au)

• Covert collection challenges
• Space-based challenges
• Identity management challenges
• Emerging biological and material science exploitation challenges
• Cyber security, protective security and offensive cyber challenges
• Human behaviour and influence challenges
• Data-driven and real-time analytical challenges
• Situation awareness and multi-source assessment challenges

2. National Security Challenges (NS22) for funding through Defence: Current Grant Opportunity View - GO5099: GrantConnect (grants.gov.au)

• Resilient Supply Chains
• Human Identification and Vulnerability Assessments
• AI/ML for Investigative Support and Forensics Science
• Robust Consequence management improving Australia’s responses to, and recovery from, disasters and emergencies
• Stand-Off/Remote Detection for 2040
