Departmental Seminar

Listening with light: distributed-feedback fibre lasers for undersea sensing

Dr Scott Foster
Principal Scientist, Undersea Sensor Technology
Defence Science & Technology Group

The intrinsic strain sensitivity and ease of wavelength division multiplexing of fibre lasers sensors make them ideally suited to sensor array applications, such as sonar. We will talk about the fundamental properties of short cavity fibre lasers, as well as their practical application to undersea sensing.

Dr Scott Foster is a Principal Scientist with the Defence Science & Technology Group based in Adelaide. His research interests include fibre optic sensors, fibre lasers, laser noise, advanced interferometry, acoustics and magnetometry.
