Available student project - Gravimeter data and tidal analysis

Research fields

Tide comparison to data from miniGrav sensor

Project details

In this project, the student will work with real gravimeter data collected from laboratory instruments and compare these measurements to a detailed tidal model. This will involve analysing time series data, identifying tidal signatures, and assessing the agreement between measurement and theory.

A significant component of the project will be software development. The student will develop tools to visualise and analyse gravimeter data, including building a system to display a live stream of data from multiple gravimeters in real time. This may involve working with data acquisition systems, implementing filtering and analysis techniques, and creating clear and intuitive visualisations.

This project will appeal to students interested in data analysis, scientific computing, and instrumentation. It combines real experimental data with modelling and software development, and can be tailored toward physics-focused analysis or software-heavy implementation depending on the student’s interests.
