Mid Term Review

Coupled nanoparticle physics, or: How I learned to stop worrying and embrace point dipoles

Mr Ben Hopkins
PhD Student, Nonlinear Physics Centre

The pursuit for understanding fundamentals in nanoscale optics offers a combination of both unintuitive physics and a predicted avenue for direct technological impact.   I will review some of the recent work I am not sick of talking about, before covering a selection of current and future projects.  From the utilization of Fano resonances, to why optical forces are interesting, and a touch of nonlinearity - this seminar will focus on approaches to utilize concepts of strongly coupled nanophotonics for application.
