The position involves overseeing the second year lab program which is included in each of the four core 2nd year physics subjects. There are approx 120 students involved each semester doing about 2-4 labs each. We employ several demonstrators per lab session and there are 3-4 lab sessions each week. The students write a major lab report and a poster. The coordinator doesn't need to be in the whole of each lab.
Two key challenges are how to manage a refresh of the current labs and how to manage the experience of our current remote students.
Second year lab coordinator is a really important aspect of the experimental PEC program. I am hoping to get someone who is really passionate about experimental physics involved in this role to pass on some love and excitement about the beauty of experimental physics!
We have to invited the second year physics subject coordinators to be involved with the experimental aspects of their course and create a closer link for the students between the subjects and the labs and build a closer team.
Please contact Jodie Bradby or Giovanni Guccione by 18th June if you are interested in this role.
