meriSTEM Volunteer Hour

Dear Colleagues,

After the success of meriSTEM’s volunteering events in 2019, we are back with another opportunity to invest your time for accessible learning. We have updated physics videos to create transcripts for, along with our first batch of chemistry and biology videos.

When: Wednesday 18 March, 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Where: ANU Physics Studio, Ground Floor, Building 38a.

Event proceedings: Join a great bunch of people to improve usability and accessibility of the meriSTEM videos for Year 11 and 12 students. Each video is about 1 to 5 minutes, and all you need to do is proof read and edit the automatic YouTube transcriptions. Instructions at 5:30pm, volunteering hour from 5:45pm to 6:45pm, pizza provided at 6:45pm.

Bring: Your own laptop and headphones to participate.

What is meriSTEM?: meriSTEM (modular educational resources in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a free program providing everything senior secondary teachers need to flip their science class using blended learning resources. We are only able to exist thanks to volunteer support and the Physics Education Centre at The Australian National University.

To RSVP: If you are available and keen to donate an hour, register through Eventbrite for venue set-up and catering purposes (www.bit.ly/meristem1803).

Get in touch with Jay and Tim for other opportunities to get involved (email: contact.meristem@anu.edu.au). We need experts to contribute inter-video questions and worksheets for physics, chemistry and biology now, and Earth science later this year.

We hope to see you in the ANU Physics Studio at 5:30pm on Wednesday 18 March!

Best wishes,

Tim
