The purpose of the NISDRG scheme is to support and identify excellent innovative research that deepens understanding of emerging science and technology that addresses intelligence and national security interests. In the 2024 round, only the Intelligence Challenges are open for EOIs.
This scheme is made up of two stages – an open EOI stage and an invitation-only full application stage.

To be eligible to apply, you must be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Residents or New Zealand Special Category Visa holders, as well as have research that aligns with the priority research areas identified by the Australian Government as per the Intelligence Challenges.
The funding level and duration is detailed below:
Funding level Between - $400,000 and $800,000 per grant.
Funding duration - Up to three years.
For this grant opportunity, a total of up to $8 million is available from ONI to enable 10 grants.
