2024 Schmidt Science Fellows Program

The Schmidt Science fellows program offers:
- A stipend of US$100,000 per year (for up to two years, a total of up to $200,000).
- A 12–24-month postdoctoral placement in a world leading laboratory.
- A Global Meeting Series.
- Personalised mentoring program.
Eligibility
- Candidates must have conducted their graduate degree in the natural sciences (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Sciences), Engineering, Mathematics, or Computing – and all sub-disciplines therein.
- Candidates must expect to complete all of the requirements for the conferral of their PhD in one of these fields between 15/05/2023 and 30/06/2024.
- Candidates must be available for the entire period of the 2024 program, from April 2024 to November 2025 including onboarding activities, attendance of the Global Meeting Series and a Senior Fellows event.
- Candidates must be nominated by a designated senior official at ANU (i.e.: the Dean HDR).
Interested candidates should provide:
- current CV with details of relevant publications, and academic history;
- a letter of recommendation from the supervisor;
- a personal statement outlining their motivations; and
- a brief description of their PhD research including PhD topic title.

There are several stages in the selection process:
- The School will forward the nominations to the College where a selection process will be undertaken;
- College nominations are submitted to the university committee for consideration;
- Candidates who have been nominated by the ANU will be invited to apply directly to the Schmidt Science Fellows program via an application portal. They will be required to provide, in addition to the above, their academic transcripts, at least three (no more than five) letters of recommendation, a proposal outlining their future research plans, and three short outlines of potential labs in which they may carry out this research. ANU can nominate up to 6 candidates to the Schmidt Science Fellows committee.
