This unique fellowship supports outstanding early career researchers whose ground-breaking work has the potential to make a difference in one of the Foundation's focus areas:

Atlas PhD grants - extended deadline

*** CERN has extended the closing date for the Atlas PhD grants. The previous deadline of 15 July has been extended to 8 August 2016. All other call information remains unchanged. These grants encourage young and high-caliber doctoral students in particle physics research, including computing for physics, to obtain world class exposure, supervision and training within the ATLAS collaboration. Grants cover two years of PhD thesis work, including one year at CERN, at a rate of CHF3,679 per month, and one year at the home institute at a reduced rate. ***

Development and validation of alternative methodologies for predicting bioaccumulation of surfactants
European Chemical Industry Council, BE

This aims to generate new datasets and coefficients to improve environmental risk assessment of surfactants in inter-industry context. The budget is €400,000 over three years.

Women in mathematics special interest group Cheryl E Praeger travel awards
Australian Mathematical Society, AU

These support Australian female mathematicians in attending conferences or to visit collaborators. The awards are worth up to AU$1,000 for a domestic trip and up to AU$3,000 for an international trip.

Experiment – in search of bold research ideas
VolkswagenStiftung – Volkswagen Foundation, DE

This initiative aims to support new research concepts in science, engineering, behavioural and life sciences, disregarding the project risk and perhaps the vagueness of a successful outcome. Approximately 15 exploratory projects will be granted per year, worth €100,000 each for a period of 18 months.

Horizon prize for CO2 reuse
Horizon 2020: Societal Challenges, EU

This rewards innovative products utilising CO2 that could significantly reduce the atmospheric emissions of CO2 when deployed at commercial scale. The prize is worth €1.5 million.
