Why a Science Communication Workshop?
All scientists are under pressure to communicate with the public about their research. This pressure comes from funding bodies, from those concerned with the public awareness of science, from those concerned with recruiting and with policy makers. Improved public and media communication is essential if the public is to understand better who scientists are – and what they do.

Aim of the Workshop 
This workshop has two main objectives:

• To increase awareness of issues in science communication especially the problems of communicating scientific ideas to the public
• To provide strategies for successful personal oral and written communication to the public
  
  

What to Expect
This workshop is not just theory – you will have an active role. There will be homework overnight. Before the workshop, we will ask you to:

• identify your expectations and goals
• prepare a short written draft about your own science for further work 
• prepare a short (1 minute) oral introduction about yourself
