Three Minute Thesis student competition
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) international research student competition is on again for 2019 and The Australian National University is currently preparing for the School and College heats followed by the ANU final. This event is for higher degree research students to showcase their research. We encourage student participation from all departments. The 3MT is an academic competition that challenges research PhD students to describe their research in plain language within three minutes to a general audience, with only a single PowerPoint slide. 3MT celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages their skill in communicating the importance of research to the broader community.
When: 9.30am Friday 26 July 2019
Where: Finkel Theatre, Building 131, John Curtin School of Medical Research, Garran Road
Please ensure you register to participate by 12 July 2018 to RSPE Student Administration
The School heat will be followed by a College heat on 9 August ready for the ANU final on 4 September 2019. More information including 3MT conditions and training opportunities click here
We encourage all RSPE research students not participating in the 3MT School heat to come and support your fellow students and join us for a social gathering afterwards.
"3MT was more rewarding than I expected.
Beyond improving my speaking confidence, I found new ways to think about my research and renewed enthusiasm for my project.
The mentors are hilariously insightful. I learned heaps from them that has already been of great personal and professional value.
The speaker cohort feels more like family than competition - I made great friends and learned about some really cool research.
It's worth a shot - even (especially!) if you're not sure what you'd present or how.
And now my mum understands what my PhD is about!"
