About the Speaker:
Prof. Hans Bachor is a German-born Australian physicist and a pioneer of Australian quantum science. He studied physics in Hannover, Germany, where he earned his diploma and doctorate. In 1981, he took a position at the Australian National University, where he established experimental quantum optics in Australia and created a well-known group for optics and laser physics, exploring the possibilities of harnessing the quantum nature of light. He has pioneered techniques for sensitive measurements beyond the quantum noise limit, improving optical sensors, interferometers, optical communication, and data storage.
