The Jagadishwar Mahanty Prize commemorates the late Dr Jagadishwar (Jay) Mahanty who was a senior member of the Research School of Physics and Engineering at The Australian National University from 1972 to 1995.
Jay was a fine physicist well known for his modest, kind and caring nature and was highly regarded among students and colleagues. His collaborative work with University and global colleagues resulted in many lasting impacts in the research field of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics.
The prize is awarded annually to graduate students who have completed outstanding Physics PhD theses within the Research School of Physics and Engineering.
The purpose of this Endowment is to support of the Jagadishwar Mahanty Prize for the encouragement and recognition for our PhD students, supporting them in their contribution to our community through research.
