Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
On Friday, the ARC announced the DECRA outcomes and I’m so pleased to congratulate Dr Ling (Lilli) Sun (CGA) on receiving this prestigious award. Lilli will build on her foundation work in CGA by using gravitational wave to probe ultralight bosons interactions with black holes.
Below, the move continues with a new nano-lathe, optical forming and polishing equipment arriving this week. Mr Sukanta Debbarma (QST) is seen below beaming as the first tool is recommissioned, a Toshiba GMP211 ultraprecision glass moulder with sub-50nm accuracy. Behind it a Moore Nanotech multi-axis diamond turning lathe, which augments our existing nano-lathe. These have sub-50nm accuracy with sub-nm surface roughness. To the left a Zeeko IRP200 precision corrective optical polisher, a little sibling to a (monster) system arriving in December, courtesy of DSTG. This and the adjoining room will be packed with optical fabrication and metrology equipment as part of NCRIS funded Optofab/ANFF facilities.
Have a good week, Tim |
