Research interests

I’m interested in investigating geochemical processes occurring at high-temperature geological environments, such as volcanoes, hydrothermal systems and ore deposits. My research primarily focuses on the reactions between magmatic or hydrothermal fluids and their environments. I aim to understand how metals and volatile elements are mobilized and recycled on Earth. 

I have studied the hydrothermal systems of active volcanoes to understand their degassing processes and how they relate to the volcano's activity state, ultimately applying this for the geo-monitoring of El Chichón volcano in my native Mexico.

Also, I worked on experimentally reproducing volcanic eruptions to determine the variables controlling the reactivity, mobility and ultimately fate of sulfur gases. This research provided insights into how SO₂ gas is sequestered by ash particles and has been applied to explain low sulfur emissions from large eruptions.
