Research interests

I’m interested in investigating geochemical processes occurring at high-temperature geological environments, such as volcanoes, hydrothermal systems and ore deposits. My research primarily focuses on the reactions between magmatic or hydrothermal fluids and their environments. I aim to understand how metals and volatile elements are mobilized and recycled on Earth.

I have studied the hydrothermal systems of active volcanoes to understand their degassing processes and how they relate to the volcano's activity state, ultimately applying this for the geo-monitoring of El Chichón volcano in my native Mexico.

Also, I worked on experimentally reproducing volcanic eruptions to determine the variables controlling the reactivity, mobility and ultimately fate of sulfur gases. This research provided insights into how SO2 gas is sequestered by ash particles and has been applied to explain low sulfur emissions from large eruptions
