Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
I hope all classes are off to a good start for Semester 2. Student numbers seem strong from what I am hearing which is great.
It's been another very busy week around the school, with many of our colleagues occupied with the ongoing project of laboratory relocations. I was walking through Building 160 on Thursday when I caught sight of Michael Blacksell helping to guide this 5m optics table into it's new home on level 1. The reflection in the glass provided a uniquely ‘physic-y’ perspective of the process (which proceeded very smoothly).
The memorial details for Professor Rodney Baxter FAA FRS are included below for anyone who would like to attend. It was lovely to hear that Professor Baxter's contributions to physics were included in one of our third-year Statistical Mechanics lectures this week.
A reminder that the school is hosting the 2025 AIP Marie Curie Lecture next week. Firstly with a public lecture on the evening of Tuesday, 5th Aug followed by a Director's Colloquium on Wednesday, 6th Aug. Details for both events are provided below. I especially encourage everyone to share the details of the public lecture with your Canberra networks, as the lecture – Your Quantum Future – is nicely aligned with the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, and should hopefully garner some public interest.
As you would have seen, the consultation period for the CoSM Change Management proposal has been extended to Thursday, 7 August 2025 at 12:00pm AEST. This extension provides additional time for everyone to review the proposal and submit their feedback – and will hopefully provide an overlap with the DVC(A) change proposal. I am happy to talk with people about the proposal and the process.
Finally, we have a Physics Executive meeting scheduled for this Friday, 1 August. If you have items you'd like added to the agenda, please contact your Head of Department.
Jodie Interim Director
Please contact me using the functional email director.physics@anu.edu.au but still use my Jodie.Bradby calendar for meeting invites. For in-person meetings, I am now using the Director's office. |
