Director's Message
Dear Colleagues,
Many of us have now departed on a well earnt break. For those of us around this week, thank you for joining in on the last official School morning tea for 2024. Above, Ms Nikki Azzopardi, stands safely behind the traditional offering only minutes before its rapid consumption.
Over the shutdown and up to the beginning of February a very large number of us will be on break. For those coming back early the following senior leaders have kindly offered to act as Director.
- Professor Jodie Bradby 20 Dec to 12 Jan - Professor Ben Buchler 13 Jan to 21 Jan - Professor Patrick Kluth 22 Jan to 2 Feb
My sincere thanks to Jodie, Ben and Patrick for stepping in over this time. If you need, please reach out to them during their acting periods.
Crompton Travel Prize winner, Mr Aditya Babu (NPAA) has recently returned from three months working at Argonne National Laboratory. My thanks to Aditya and Phil Dooley for committing this trip to a lovely story that proves physics really does seek to understand the origins of magic (a nod to Terry Pratchett).
Below, the ANU Chief Operating Officer, Mr Jonathan Churchill, is hosted by the NPAA and HIA teams in an end of year tour of these amazing NCRIS facilities. Here, Dr Tom McGoram and Prof Nanda Dasgupta espouse why this world-leading capability can continuously achieve what it does; an excellent technical team, great workshops and a committed academic culture. It was a wonderful opportunity to provide one of the university’s senior managers with an insight into why ANU can differentiate itself on the world stage.
I wish for you to have a safe and restful break. Thank you for a massive year and for contributing to the ongoing successes in our School. I look forward to working with you in 2025.
