Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is with enormous pleasure I congratulate Distinguished Professor Yuri Kivshar on his long running recognition as Australia’s top physicist through being listed in the Clarivate High-Cited researcher again this year.  Few scientists world-wide can maintain standing at this level for so long.  With equal pleasure I note that Dr Kirill Koshelev and Professor Dragomir Neshev are also well recognised for their impact across multiple disciplines in this global list.  I am so pleased that our long-term collaborator, Professor Michael Johnston (Oxford) has ANU as a secondary affiliation. Together these recognitions are significant contributions to the elements of our global public identity as a leading school of physics.

My sincere thanks our teaching team in Shandong at the moment.  Above Wei Wen Wong (EME), Chaohao Chen (EME), Marcus Cai (EME) , Shridhar Manjunath (EME) on site in Weihai.  Below, enthralled SDU students immersed in their favourite topic, physics.

My thanks to all those who contributed to our teaching program this year.   Education is such an important foundation for our school and we can be very proud of our educators.

Some snaps from the past week;

Professor Nanda Dasgupta (NPAA) leads a panel discussion at the recent Heavy Ion Accelerator Symposium
Petr Adamek, founder of the Canberra Innovation Network celebrates the first 10 years
Dr Mark Chadwick (LANL) delivers an excellent Director’s Colloquium on the history

Have a great weekend.

Tim
