Windows 10 End of Life

Win10 will stop getting security updates in October 2025. It is important that we move all Physics computers to Win11 or remove them from the network by then.

Many computers in the school are too old to run Win11, so if your PC is more than about 7 years old you will need to start planning for its replacement.

Please reach out to it.physics@anu.edu.au for assistance with upgrading or replacing systems.

TMOS and the RSPhys Equity and Diversity Committee are excited to announce an enriching event!

ANU's Respectful Relationships Unit have been invited to conduct a special training session on LGBTQIA+ Ally Training here in Physics.

Date: 10th July
Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, followed by an afternoon tea celebrating NAIDOC week to Keep the Fire Burning!

Mysterious Sixth-order Transition Hints At Enigmatic Nuclear Process

Physicists have seen the only known example of a sixth-order electromagnetic decay process in nature, emitted as a gamma ray from an excited state in iron-53 nuclei.

The team from the Department of Nuclear Physics and Applications believe it is evidence for an extremely rare and complex multi-particle process that may never be fully understood.

“In the universe, this is the only known E6 transition,” said lead researcher from NPAA, Dr AJ Mitchell.
