MakerSpace Access Update |
|
Starting from 4th March, the ANU MakerSpace at Physics North will no longer be included in the default Physics card access group. Everyone who enters this space will need to be a fully inducted MakerSpace member. This includes people who choose to transit through the space to visit the Physics North Mechanical Workshop.

Agile Project Management Training Course
|
|
TMOS is running an Agile Project Management training course in from 8th - 11th April 2024 in person, in Canberra. This Foundation & Practitioner course gives participants an internationally recognized certification in project management.
The cost of the training will depend on the number of participants and will be a maximum of $2539 and minimum of $2010 (all prices ex. GST). More information about the qualification can be found here.

Schmidt Science Fellows For 2025 Award
Applications are open for Schmidt Science Fellows for 2025 award.
Interested candidates should provide:
- current CV with details of relevant publications, and academic history;
- a letter of recommendation from the HDR Program Convenor;
- a personal statement outlining their motivations aligning with the selection criteria; and
- a brief description of their PhD research including PhD topic title.
In addition, to the HDR Program Convenor must provide confirmation (via email) that the nominee is of ‘good academic standing’ – see further details below.
Please send your nominations to CoS (Alison Scott) via hdr.cos@anu.edu.au by COB Thursday 18 April.
Nominated candidates will be invited to apply directly to the Schmidt Science Fellows program via an application portal from 09 May 2024. They will be required to provide, in addition to the above, their academic transcripts, at least three (no more than five) letters of recommendation, a proposal outlining their future research plans, and three short outlines of potential labs in which they may carry out this research.

PhB Mentors Needed
This year we have 11 first-year Physics students in the PhB program, some of the smartest high-school graduates from across the country. Each student is to be assigned an academic mentor for their time at ANU, and we would like to make a call for people willing to take on this role. This typically involves 1-2 meetings per semester to provide advice regarding their studies.
All students should do research projects and also enter the Honours Program, so this is an excellent opportunity to expand your research groups with extra hands. Please contact us to express your interest.

Teaching Opportunity - Get Involved And Be An "Academic of the Week" in the PHYS1101 Labs
We are seeking expressions of interest for the role of "Academic of the Week" for our foundational first-year course, PHYS1101. This involves leading one (or two!) labs, where you will introduce students to the practical aspects of physics, contextualize the lab's relevance, and explain foundational concepts.

Robert And Helen Crompton Award 2024 - Call For Applications
We are seeking applications for the Robert and Helen Crompton Award, valued up to $15,000.
This generous award, funded by The Robert and Helen Crompton Endowment Fund, enables RSPhys HDR students to undertake part of the research program overseas or make a collaborative visit to an overseas institution, for 3 to 6 months.
