Director's Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to add my congratulations to our twelve Graduands from last week.    Pictured above with Professor Lan Fu (HDR Convenor) and Dr Rose Ahlfeldt (Assoc. Honours Convenor) are; Michael Barson, Roisin Boadle, Zhi Hong Cheong, Md. Imran Hasan, Jacob Hughes, Larissa Huston, Romana Lester and Lauren Sarre (absent: Thomas Barnsley, Sonja Panjkov, Layla Steed, Kyle Wright). All the very best for the next stage of your careers.

Last week, Jie “Sophie” Zhao from DQS (Professor Ping Koy Lam’s group) was awarded first prize in the Nature: Light Science and Application 'Rising Stars of Light’ Competition.  Sophie travelled to China to compete with nine other finalists from all over the world (including participants from MIT, Oxford, EPFL Lausanne and Max Planck). Her talk presented original work on quantum cloning and gate operations. Congratulations to Sophie and her collaborators for the recognition of their outstanding research.

Thank you to Professor Hoe Tan for holding the fort last week.

Have a good week,

Tim
