Some Aspects of Horava Gravity

In a recent model of gravitation, proposed by Horava, higher order spatial derivative terms are introduced to improve the high energy behavior, at the cost of breaking Lorentz invariance. This has led to problems such as the presence of an extra degree of freedom. In the present talk, we suggest a way to extend the Horava model such that the extra degree of freedom is absent. Furthermore we show that the higher derivative terms can generate an instability leading to the spontaneous breaking of translation invariance. This can introduce a length scale in the metric and modify the Newtonian potential at short distance. Our analysis are preliminary in the sense that we deal with a linearized form of Horava gravity.
