The Research School of Physics and Engineering is covered by a gigabit wired and 802.11b/g/n wifi network both supplied by ITS.
ANU network infrastructure is connected to the greater internet via AARNET.
All computers should be registered with the SCU before using on the RSPE network. We require machines are malware free and have an appropriate level of virus protection installed.
All new computers must be electrically tested by the RSPE electronics Unit and then brought to the School Computer Unit for deployment. We can assist with allocating an IP address making sure the machine is up to date and has all of the required software installed.
Personally owned computers
Personally owned computers can be used in the School by following these steps:
- All electrical devices must be tested and tagged by the School Electronics Unit before being connected to the ANU power supply
- All devices must be brought to the School Computer Unit for auditing and configuration before being connected to the RSPE wired network
Virtual private network
The University pays for downloads from most sites at a rate of $4.50 per Gigabyte. Download charges on the wired gigabit network are billed through to the local departments. Wireless downloads are currently covered centrally.
Many educational institutions and content distribution networks are considered on-net or peering and are free from download charging.
The school is also charged a yearly network access fee per patched network port.
