Project details

Hydrodynamic instabilities, such as the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, arise at the interface of two shear fluids with a relative velocity between them. Such instabilities occur throughout nature, such as in the ocean thermocline or at the edge of clouds known as billow clouds.  In this project, you will investigate how to drive instability dynamics in a mixture of two superfluids, by numerically modelling the coupled non-linear Schrödinger equation. This is a ideal project for a student who would like experience in a computational theoretical project, that will closely model and drive current experiments in the lab.
