Industry partnership towards cancer treatment
A Sirtex Professorial Chair position at the School was launched by the VC on Wednesday 21 August 2013.
Sirtex Pty Ltd, a Sydney-based pharmaceutical company whom Department of Applied Mathematics has had a productive relationship with since 2006, has committed to sponsoring the chair for three years. This is an industry sponsored research position in the area of biomaterials technology for medical applications in infectious disease and liver cancer. Professor Ross Stephens, who leads the biomedical research team at the Department of Applied mathematics, was appointed as the Sirtex Chair. Ross and the research team physically relocated to their new research facilities at the Research School of Biology (RSB) in the Robertson building in May this year.
ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young AO welcomed the establishment of the Chair.
“This is a fine example of industry investing in a meaningful way in research and development for the benefit of all. It shows the confidence that Sirtex has for the quality and quantity of research that ANU produces.”
