ANU wins Eureka Prize for Commercialisation of Innovation
The ANU collaboration with UNSW and Digitalcore have been awarded the 2012 Rio Tinto Eureka Prize for Commercialisation of Innovation. The prize is part of the most comprehensive and prestigious national science awards, the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes. It is awarded to an individual, group or organisation for the commercialisation of an innovation within the past 10 years that can be shown to have created significant value within Australia during that time.
Building on a decade of fundamental research at the Australian National University and the University of New South Wales, Canberra-based company Digitalcore is using supercomputing combined with high-resolution 3D scanning of oil-bearing rocks to come to the aid of the oil and gas industry. Its technology is enabling more effective extraction of hydrocarbons such as oil and natural gas.
